The role of the Department of Normal Anatomy in the training of naval doctors during the Great Patriotic War

This publication analyzes the activities of the Department of Normal Anatomy at the Naval Medical Academy during its evacuation to the city of Kirov (1941–1944). The study draws upon published materials on the history of the Academy and memoirs of participants in those events. Under the leadership of Professor B.A. Dolgo-Saburov, the department staff established a fully functioning educational process at the new location within two months. The employees prepared an anatomical specimen collection comprising 100 joint preparations, 300 internal organ preparations, and 50 brain preparations. The teaching methodology was based on the principle of active independent work of cadets with anatomical material. In addition to training junior-year students, the department faculty conducted elective classes for fifth-year cadets and advanced training courses for naval physicians assigned to the Academy. The scientific circle continued its work, holding monthly meetings featuring cadet presentations. Under the extreme conditions of evacuation, the department managed to maintain the quality of personnel training for the Navy.
